Flash Mobs In New York City, Canada, and More Call Out To SM Town!

Looks like the success of the flash mobs in Paris
(that got them a second SM Town Live concert) have inspired K-pop fans across the globe to take action in hopes of seeing their favorite stars perform in their home countries. On July 6, Cherry Hill in Central Park, New York City was taken over by an army of pink, led by flash mob organizers (and college buddies) Joy, Danielle, Michelle, and Chanel.
According to Danielle, 22, the four friends had begun preparing for the “We Want SM Town NYC” flash mob since May, and the event had snowballed almost overnight as word got out, even getting the attention of major broadcasting stations in Korea! It was truly a sight to see — girls and guys of all different nationalities and ages, holding up handmade signs (some written in Korean!) and chanting the names of their favorite SM artists.
 “Dae-Han-Min-Guk!”
The victory chants, meaning “Korea” and often heard during World Cup season, were loud enough to catch the attention of passersby — some of whom stuck around to watch the highlight of the afternoon: the flash mob!
At 2:00 PM, those who learned the choreography from the tutorial video posted on the SMTOWNNYC social media sites got into their formations, while others cheered them on and waved their signs from behind. And cue music. For those ten minutes, Central Park got a taste of some of SM’s hottest singles from this year. Music played from a portable stereo, barely audible over the 100+ fans in attendance who were singing along excitedly.

KBS News Coverage of SMTOWN Flash Mobs

Hopefully this kind of news coverage is what NYC K-pop fans need to reach their goal of getting SM “to stop neglecting the east coast and hold a SMTown Live here in NYC!”
And US and Canada aren’t the only ones who want SM Town to pay them some attention — 4,000 K-pop fans in Peru gathered for their “SM Town in Peru Project,” while flash mobs and other fan projects have been popping up across countries like Brazil and Mexico!
Looks like it’s your move now, SM.
